Projects

The structure of Agenda VIIAFOOD is based on eight Strategic Pillars (SP), organized according to different strategic focuses, which converge towards one common goal: to promote the structural transformation of the agrifood sector, leveraging the development of innovative products, processes and services capable of responding to the opportunities, gaps and needs of the market.

Thus, these Strategic Pillars contribute to the different pillars of the Recovery and Resilience Plan: Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth (SP1 to SP4); Ecological Transition (SP5); Digital Transformation (SP6); Economic Resilience (SP7 and SP8).

These eight strategic pillars will contribute to the 31 major delivery lines for products, processes, and services.

SP1: Nutrition and Healthy and Safe Food

Development of: (1) new ‘clean label’ and/or healthier product formulations; (2) new formulations of enriched products and/or with new properties, as well as the design and implementation of (3) new process technologies to produce healthier and safer products.

SP2: New Sensory Experiences (new aromas, textures and formats)

Development and availability of: (1) new product formulations with new aromas, textures and/or formats, (2) new product formulations oriented to specific dietary needs (i.e., vegan, vegetarian), as well as (3) new process technologies essential to produce them.

SP3: Quality, Safety and Traceability of Food

To promote smart, sustainable and inclusive growth through science and technology, through research and innovation activities leading to the introduction of new packaging solutions with advanced functionalities in terms of food quality, safety and traceability, and new quality testing and certification services for food products to be developed.

SP4: Consumer Behavior

It is divided into two critical areas of services with an impact on consumer behavior: (1) an observatory of trends and novelties in the sector and (2) consumer sensory analysis.

It aims to provide and empower the agrifood sector with new services at the level of consumer behavior, which is, ultimately, the central decision-maker in the value chain of the agrifood sector. In this way, the activities to be carried out in this Structural Project will promote the increase in the value of products in the market, as well as the qualification and creation of critical skills in the agrifood sector, contributing to the intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth of the sector.

SP5: Sustainability in the Agrifood Sector

Development of: (1) new ‘green’/organic product formulations, (2) new eco-sustainable / recyclable / biodegradable packaging, as well as the design and implementation of (3) new eco-sustainable / ’green’ process technologies.

SP6: Efficient Processing of Food and Packaging

It is divided into two distinct focuses: (1) new, more advanced and efficient process technologies and (2) new technologies for the digitalization of processes, within the scope of Industry 4.0.

This Strategic Pillar will promote a set of R&D&I activities in the field of digital transformation, involving the different actors of the sector (namely, companies and entities of the scientific and technological system), with a view to increasing productivity, productive flexibility and logistics, as well as leveraging the rapid development of new and innovative products, in order to guarantee the necessary capacity to respond to the constant mutations in the consumption paradigms of the agrifood sector.

SP7: Collaborative Infrastructures for Co-Innovation and Pre-Industrialization

It comprises a set of collaborative initiatives that aim to provide the agrifood sector with: (1) new co-innovation infrastructures and (2) new infrastructures for pre-industrialization.

This Strategic Pillar aims to create these collaborative infrastructures for innovation and industrialization, which may be uni or multi-sectoral, with a view to creating the basic conditions for the prosperity and economic resilience of the agrifood sector.

SP8: Promotion and Internationalization of the Agrifood Sector

Through participation in international events, such as fairs, conventions, conferences, and promotional actions for Food & Beverage professionals.
